Drive for Science came to life following Hurricane Harvey, the damage was widespread, but we wanted to focus on children. While parents place all their efforts and funds towards recovery and rebuilding their homes and lives, children may feel isolated, displaced, stressed and worried about their security. A storm of this magnitude puts their safety at risk and we wanted to do something to take their minds off from the traumatic event that had recently taken place.

We created an Amazon Wish List with science kits, books and educational tools like microscopes and we received over 150 items! Additionally people brought gently used books and kits to our STEM supply drive in person, in total we collected about 200 items like robot kits, volcano kits, slime, chemistry, physics, biology and technology kits that teach kids science while having fun!

Students from the Anita Borg Institute and Baylor College of Medicine hosted experiment tables, Kinship Care helped visitors navigate the signup process for healthcare, their organization focuses on underserved communities as well as transgender People of Color. Be The Match registered several donors and Voter Registrars registered voters.

In addition to the STEM supply drive, Gulf Coast Regional set up a coach bus to get blood donations. All in all, with the generosity of our local and online community, we were able to host a very successful event, we couldn't have done it without you! Thank you!
